YCFP provides services and resources for families and community members in Latah County , Idaho and Whitman County , Washington , a geographic area known as the Palouse. The staff and volunteers of YCFP strive to fulfill two main goals focused on children prenatal through age five:

  • Build the capacity of parents and caregivers across the Palouse to facilitate learning in their young children.
  • Build the capacity of the entire Palouse community to support early learning and school readiness in young children.

  • Learning Style Consultations to enhance parents' understanding of the way their child learns.
  • Parent Education Consultation through home visits.
  • Ages and Stages developmental monitoring.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) screening sessions.
  • First Steps of the Palouse for families with newborns in collaboration with local hospitals.
  • Baby Track immunization reminders.
  • Family Fun Nights focused on getting parents together to focus on ways to make daily learning fun.
  • Circle of Parents support groups.
  • Parent Mentors to share information with families in rural communities.

An Oversight Committee comprised of parents, service providers, educators and community leaders from both Latah and Whitman County provides guidance and direction for Young Children and Family Programs of the Palouse. This Committee communicates with the Early Childhood Service Council, which is the official Advisory Board for YCFP.
